Gunmen rob, shoot PoS operator in Ekiti

Pandemonium broke out on Easter Monday in the Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State, after some unidentified gunmen shot a 41-year-old Point of Sale (PoS) operator in the area.

The incident which resulted into panic occured at about 3:30 pm, shortly after the operator resumed for his daily operation in the area.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that a group of boys suddenly emerged on a motorbike, moved straight to the operator and forcefully collected his handset and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money.

He said: “Shortly after collecting the handset, they robbed and shot him in the leg several times, before shooting sporadically and escaped on a waiting motorbike.

The source said the unidentified gunmen who were three in numbers made away with the victim’s undisclosed sum of money and his mobile phone, while traders and passersby in the vicinity scampered to safety as the hoodlums shot sporadically to escape from the scene.

Recounting his ordeal in a private health facility in Ado-Ekiti, the victim said he was in his PoS stand on the fateful day, when the gunmen numbering about three suddenly emerged from the street.

‘”Immediately I saw them coming down from the bike, I asked if they needed cash. Suddenly, one of them brandished a gun and pointed it at me. He shot me on the leg several times after collecting huge amount of money from me.  They also forcefully collected my telephone,” he stated.

The victim maintained that the three-man gang operated, with two of them attacking him while the third waited on the motorcycle.

He said he is a painter and operates his PoS shop during his free period.

He pleaded to the state government and well meaning individuals to come to his aid while he called on the state security agencies to intensify their efforts at ensuring the safety of lives and properties of the people, especially during festive season.
