A 40- year- old man, Lawrence Lekan, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing.
Lekan was alleged to have stolen a Fireman Generator SPG, on April 26, 2024, at Adu Memorial Secondary School Akure, in Akure South local government area.
The state Prosecuting counsel, O.F. Akeredolu, informed the court that the defendant stole and unlawfully destroyed a Fireman Generator SPG 3600E2 valued at N300,000, property of one Mr. Yunisa.
The defendant was also said to have stolen an Infinix Hot 30i Android phone valued at N120,000, property of one Mrs Oluwaseun Omokehinde.
According to the prosecution, he committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
Akeredolu said he would call five witnesses to testify in the case. So, he applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Lawyer for the defendant, O.O.Oladapo did not object to the prosecutor’s application. He applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, T.l. Ayodele-James, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He added that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction, they must deposed to affidavit of means and two photograph passports.
The defendant could not perfect his bail and was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Center Akure.
The case was adjourned till May 26, 2024, for hearing.
