Ife in shock over Adedoyin’s arrest

The arrest of an Ife Prince and founder of Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, Dr Ramon Adedoyin has caused a stir in the ancient town, The Hope learnt yesterday.
Our correspondent who visited Ile-Ife said the Ife Prince was a subject of hush discussions and gossips in the town.
Every quarter visited by our correspondent, his arrest by the police in connection with the death of a Master’s Degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Mr Timothy Adegoke was the issue.
Adedoyin, a free-giver and business mogul owns the Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Ile-Ife where the corpse of Adegoke was found and later exhumed.
Many of the residents who spoke to our reporter declined to be identified for security reasons. However, a student of Oduduwa University who spoke anonymously called on the police to get to the root of the matter because student die mysteriously every semester in the university.
She said, “I can confidently tell you it is a trend in Oduduwa University for students to die in a curious manner without any explanation.
Some residents who also spoke described Adedoyin as a philanthropist and a gentleman to the core, saying the allegation came as a rude shock to them.
“We can’t really pinpoint what happened, but Adedoyin has been a friend of the masses and has been upright in his dealings.
“The truth will be out after investigations by the police. So, we will wait for the outcome before making comments.”
Meanwhile, the Maye-in-Council has appealed to the Nigerian Police Force to do their investigation very well in order not to punish an innocent person.
Reacting, the Maye-in-Council in a statement signed by Olusegun Jeje, described Adedoyin as a role model and not ritualist.
“He is an attestation to the fact that anyone can achieve greatness through discipline, dedication, hard work and dogged commitment to purposeful pursuits in life.
“A man who has five universities and polytechnics and a Muslim to the core cannot kill a fly.”
Meanwhile, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode has assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated. He appealed to the bereaved family, students and management of OAU for patience to allow the police discharge its duties without perversion of justice.
Olokode stated that no matter the personality of the person involved in the case or how highly or lowly placed in the society, if found culpable will be brought to justice.
Six other suspects are being held by the police for questioning over the murder.
