Laws to boost agric sector underway—ODHA

The Ondo State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to enact laws that will boost the agricultural sector in the state.
The Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Taofik Mohammed stated this during an oversight visit to the State Agricultural Inputs And Supply Agency in Akure.
While identifying the role of agriculture in the state’s diversification drive, he posited that there is need for the Agency to be revitalised to boost food security.
The lawmaker urged the Agency to continue to adopt innovative strategies to tackle all challenges threatening it, adding that agriculture holds hope and better promise for the state.
Other members while lauding the agricultural reforms the agency has initiated, assured that the visit will address some of the issues confronting it for optimal performance.
According to them,all hands must be on deck towards enhancing the citizens’ livelihoods through agriculture.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Agency, Mrs Olunfunke Ogunlade who appreciated the committee for performing it legislative duties effectively opined that the role of agriculture sector in moving people away from unemployment and guarantee food sufficiency cannot be overlooked.
Mrs. Olunfunke explained that during the EndSARS protest the agency lost many agric inputs saying that the Central Store at Oke Eda that housed fertilizers worth millions of naira was attacked and carted way.
She added that some structures across the state were also vandalized as they thought they were housing food items.
She therefore sought the support of the committee to help the agency deliver on it mandate.
The committee members were later conducted round the affected facility at Oke-Eda to ascertain the level of destruction.
