Man in court for assault, attempt to kill

A 46-year-old man, Wale Ige has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault and threat to kill his wife.
Ige is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat to kill.
The Prosecutor, Mr Temitope Fatoba, told the court that the accused person committed the offences on August 31, around 7:00a.m., at Biket area in Osogbo.
He said that the accused person unlawfully assaulted his wife, Abisola Ige and inflicted injuries on her body and threatened to bathe her with acid.
He said that the accused person also threatened to kill his brother-in-law, Dada Abayomi, because of the rancour between him and his wife.
“The accused person alleged that his wife was returning home late, running after men and being unfaithful,” the prosecutor said.
The offences committed contravened Sections 86 and 351 of the Criminal Code cap. 34 ; Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Alfred Adegoke, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Taofeek Badmus, in his ruling granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in like sum.
Badmus said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payments and produce two passport photographs attached to an affidavit of means.
The case was adjourned till September 24 for hearing.
