In its bid to ensure total eradication of COVID 19 in the work place, the Nigerian Labour Congress has embarked on COVID-19 testing and vaccination sensitization campaign.

The exercise carried out in conjunction with the congress’ Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) was held yesterday at the Ondo State Development and Property Corporation event center in Akure.

Speaking during the exercise, the immediate past state secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the team lead for the exercise, Mr Shado Festus said the program aimed to eradicate COVID 19 in the workplace.

While noting that though the World Health Organization has said the pandemic has been reduced to the barest minimum, Festus stressed that the union cannot rest on its oars yet.

“We are here because we believe that prevention is better than cure. We believe that though COVID 19 is winding down globally, we cannot be completely sure that we are totally free from it, therefore the need for this exercise.”

Other unions present for the exercise include; Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria among others.

Commending the exercise, one of the beneficiaries and staff of the Ondo State Development and Property Corporation, Mrs Olaniyi Afere said “this is indeed a laudable exercise.

“Though we understand that the pandemic is gradually phasing out, it is not time yet to throw caution into the air as prevention is better than cure.”

She commended the NLC for the move to ensure total eradication of the pandemic and urged all and sundry to take advantage of the opportunity.
