N igeria Women Footbal League (NWFL) has slammed N1million fine on Osun Babes and warned the team against banishment.

The Nigeria Women Football League slammed N1m fine on the team over the assault of match officials by the club’s fans in the Match No: 26 an home game between the club and Naija Ratels FC of Abuja played on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in Osun State.

One of Osun Babe’s supporters, Mr Rosco was suspended indefinitely from all NWFL organised competitions with immediate effect, for instigating violence against the match officials.

The NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said in a press statement, that, “the match officials were reported to be assaulted by Osun Babes fans on their way to their hotel after the match.

“This was a gross violation of the Article 17.1 of the NWFL Regulatory Framework, which states that: “It shall be the responsibility of the home state football association in conjunction with the home club to provide adequate and effective security before, during, and after any match.

However, nothing in these rules shall prevent the home club from taking responsibility for ensuring that there is adequate security, crowd control and restriction of access by unauthorised persons from all restricted access areas in the course of the match.

“In line with Article 26.1, Osun Babes FC has been fined the sum of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00).

“Also in line with Article 16.5, Osun Babes risk banishment from playing their home matches in Osun State if the club supporters persistently cause disorder during their home matches. We believe this fine will serve as a deterrent and strong warning to Osun Babes FC.”
