NWFL Week 32: Sunshine Stars sting Nasarawa United 2-1

S unshine Stars yesterday defeated Nasarawa United 2-1 in the matchday 32 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) contest decided at the Ondo State Sports Complex ,Akure the state capital.

Chilekwu Chigozieww put Sunshine Stars ahead three minutes into the encounter after he capitalized on the visitor’s defensive error to jab into the far corner of the net.

The hosts season’s lead goal scorer, Leonard Ugochukwu made it two 11th minute after he received pass from Ebonam Nwogbada’s.

The visitor’s reacted with their long ball which were contained by the hosts back line. Sunshine Stars continued their dominance with more pressure on their visitors with the aim of increasing their lead to three.

Sunshine Stars Goalkeeper, Japhet Opubo made a brilliant save from six yards to deny Nasarawa a leveller in the 35th minute before the center referee signal the end of the first half.

The hostility continued in the second stanza with the visitor’s came out with all intent to get early equalizer which was unsuccessful with brilliant display of Sunshine Stars glovesman.

Chinedum Ohanachom broke the deadlock for the solid miners in the 73rd minute from a beautiful team move .

Both sides threatening with good flashes of the round leather game but goals the either sides were elusive as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the homers.

Sunshine Stars coach, Emmanuel Deutsch in a chat with Journalists congratulated the football loving people of Ondo State for the victory saying he will wait till the end of the season to know how to assess his own performance.

Deutch said the game was tough because we drew them at Nasarawa United 2-2 so we really prepare for them

According to him, “the players displayed good character in the first half but they relaxed a little beat in the second half may be because they give too much in the first stanza of the encounter.”

“We have another home match with Niger Tornadoes and we will be playing FA cup on Tuesday, we are going now to prepare for the two matches”.

His counterpart from Nasarawa United Coach, Bala Nikyu conceded his side were not at their best in the first half adding that the game was good and balance.
