Ondo NSCDC arrests 41 suspects

Forty one suspected criminals have been arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ondo State, over offences such as vandalism, cultism and gender based violence.
The State commandant of NSCDC, Mr Eweka Okoro Doughlas disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Hope Metro in his office at the State Headquarters, Alagbaka, Akure the state capital.
He said: “since my assumption of duty in the state on October 13, 2020, data showed that 41 suspected criminals have been arrested.
The Commandant said the suspects were arrested on crimes bordering on vandalism, farmers/herders clashes, gender based violence, cultism and other criminalities at various black spots in the state.
“Barely three months after I assumed duty, we have actively participated in the Operation Crocodile Smile 6. Immediately after that, there was ENDSARS and upsurge in crime which brought about the Joint inter-agencies collaboration to prevent criminalities.
“In keeping our critical national assets and infrastructure, which is one of our core mandates, we have been able to put everything in check. No government infrastructure has been destroyed so far.
The NSCDC boss stated some achievements of the corps in the State to include Fire Service to tackle fire disasters by putting all incidents in check in the state.
“This synergy with the State Fire Service has given the service a boost in the area of adequate performance.
“Out of the arrests that were made, we had 20 cases of sexual based gender violence and out of these cases, three have been convicted in court.
“We also have four cases of cultism and two out of the cases are presently in court.
He added that the command has been in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Igbokoda which handed over some criminals involved in over five cases from the riverine because “it is our” duty to take them to court.
He further mentioned that men of the command have embarked on intelligence network around black spots in the state in other to carry out adequate surveillance.
