Osun Police inaugurates Community Policing C’ttee

Nigeria Police, Osun State Command has  inaugurated, the state’s Community Police Committee to see to internal security in the state.

The State Commissioner, Babatunde Kokumo,  while inaugurating the committee at the State Command in Osogbo, said the essence of the committee is to enable members of the public be actively involved with the security of their domains.

According to the police boss, “we have different levels of hierarchy in policing in the state. At each level, we would have members of the community working together with the police”.

He stated that the Community Police Committee comprises of DPOs, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers as members and it will be co-chaired by the DPOs and traditional rulers at the divisional level.

Kokumo said the committee is saddled with the responsibility of recruiting constable at the divisional level.

He urged everyone to embrace the concept as it gives the opportunity to take part actively in deciding the security of the state.

He said the Local Government Chairmen would conduct meetings at various council areas.

In his address, the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola said with the constitution of the community policing, the state will be positively different from what it used to be in three months, time.

Oyetola who was represented by the  Commissioner, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bayo Adeleke, appealed to the DPOs to see the committee as their personal project.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who was represented by Lowa of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye prayed for the success of the initiative.

He pleaded with the members of the committee to be zealous and fervent in the discharge of their duties.
