The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the PDP will continue to lose its membership if the clique dominating the national body of the party does not realise reason power should not belong to few members in the party.
It said the main opposition party should put its house in order and look inward if defection of its members to the ruling APC to stop.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the APC in Ondo State, Mr. Steve Otaloro, who stated this in an interview with The Hope said the quick emergency meeting of the APC earlier this year which led to the dissolution of its national and state executives to unit level to be on acting capacity saved the party from perceived crisis which might likely linger on if the crisis within the party was not nip in the bud.
According to him, defection of the PDP governors to the APC was an indication that the main opposition party was in serious crisis as a political party that lost its direction.
He maintained that its (PDP) failure to plan towards its congresses and national convention was another indication that the party was in deep crisis.
Otaloro further pointed out that the defected PDP Governors, Prof. Ben Ayade of Cross River State, David Umahi of Ebonyi State, former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and other chieftains defected as a result of crisis rocking the party and sterling performance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The South-south region , which he said has always been the stronghold of the PDP was now being gradually controlled by the APC due to the lack of internal democracy in the party.
The defection of oppositions to the APC, which the spokesperson described as a welcome development, could not turn Nigeria into a one party system as vibrant democracy must have an opposition.
” It will be difficult for a political party like the PDP that is sinking to gain presidency of this country.
” The PDP governors and leaders that defected have foresights of the party not winning presidency.
“More governors of the party are still coming to the APC because of their political future.
“The PDP is going to an extinction following the political juggernaut in the party” he affirmed
