By Ayodele Popoola

Pandemonium broke out in the early hours of today in Akure as a yet-to-be-identified soldier, reportedly stabbed a trader identified as Ibuka to death over the price of carpet.

The Hope Metro gathered that the incident happened around the Oke-Aro Junction in the Arakale area of the town.

The incident led to the blockage of major roads in the area by some aggrieved traders and colleagues of the deceased.

It was learnt that the soldier who was on mufti came down from the bike, and suddenly brought out a dagger and stabbed the deceased in the stomach.

Eyewitness account revealed that trouble started yesterday(Friday), when the deceased tried to stop the soldier from beating and harassing a co-trader who is a nursing mother, over the price of a carpet.

The interference led to an argument between the deceased and the soldier.

In the process, the soldier was reported to have vowed to come back to retaliate the interference of the deceased in his negotiation with the woman selling the carpet.

An eyewitness, Chibuka, who spoke to our correspondent during a visit to the scene of the attack, said the impact of the attack made the trader fall to the ground, adding that the soldier took to his heels upon realising that he had lost consciousness.

The deceased remains has been taken to the UNIMED morgue.
