Sunshine Stars, Queens retain Ondo FA Cup

Sunshine Stars FC and Sunshine Queens FC have both emerged champions of the 2024 Ondo State FA Cup in the male and female categories respectively.

The matches played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, had Sunshine Queens defeating Onimarg FC 1-0 in the first encounter to win the female version of the FA Cup.

Taiwo Aganmuyi scored the lone goal from 28 yards strike to win the FA cup for the Akure Landladies.

Later in the day, Sunshine Stars Football Club defeated Adamimogo by 2-0 to lift the Ondo State FA Cup again, thanks to goals in each half.

The FA Chairman in the State, Otunba Ajayi, appreciated the teams that participated in this edition of the FA Cup.

Ajayi, who urged the teams to be good ambassadors of the state in the Federation Cup later in the year, said he was happy with the way the teams comported themselves throughout the competition.

Today’s FA Cup competition is an annual event organized by the Nigeria Football Federation across the state football association.

” Each state will produce two clubs to represent their state at the federation level and winners of the tournament will therefore represent Nigeria at the Continental level,” he said.

Ajayi later announced that the Governor’s Cup competition had been resuscitated after many years of neglect due to financial difficulties, adding that the competition should start after the FA Cup which ended today.

Medals and trophies were later presented to the winners of the competition and runners-up went home with medals.
