An Akungba-Akoko Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State has sentenced a 42-year old man, Jimoh Tajudeen, to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone and three months for unlawfully possessing three others.
Tajudeen was convicted on a two-count charge after being accused of stealing an Infinix Hot 60i valued at N150,000, belonging to one Daisi Joseph, and unlawfully possessing three other mobile phones.
The phones allegedly found in his possession were an Itel A50, a Tecno phone without an IMEI number and a Tecno Camon 17.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Boboye, told the court that the offences were committed at about 2pm on March 16, 2026, in Akungba-Akoko, within the magisterial district.
Boboye said the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of the phones found in his possession.
The offences were said to be contrary to Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume I, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
However, the defendant attributed his involvement in stealing to what he described as a spiritual battle, insisting that his actions were not deliberate.
The case was heard by Magistrate Kolapo Kolawole, who sentenced Tajudeen to three full calendar years’ imprisonment on count one and three months’ imprisonment on count two.
