Football lovers across Ondo state have expressed concern over the recent poor run of form of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure.
The team has not won any game since February, having secured just 5 points out of possible 33, 5 drawn five and lost six games in total.
The team is currently in the relegation zone on the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) table, occupying 17th position on the log.
Supporters and sympathisers of the noted that the Owena waves had become shallow of their formal selves, warning that if they did not improve from their current non attractive performance, they may relegate from the NPFL.
They however suggested that more funds should be allocated to the team in order to motivate the players for better performance.
A staunch supporter of the club, Mr Oluwaseun Anifowose opined that the recent performance of the club was due to the lack of fund and negligence of the players when performing their duties as a footballer.
As a means to prevent the club from relegating, he urged the management to sign new players and be prudent with available fund given to them.
Another supporter, Mr Isaac Great noted that “Something must be done about team’s performance; sunshine stars use to be among the top teams in Nigeria and African as a whole but are now battling relegation.”
He recommend that the welfare of the players must be improved and there should be injection of new players in the team.
On his part, Mr Olu Asaolu described the current poor form of the team as worrisome, saying “Sponsors should also be provided, good and competent players must be bought, the coach should be given a free hand to use whoever he wants”.
