Tragedy: Father, son electrocuted in Ekiti

Tragedy struck on Wednesday in Aramoko-Ekiti, the administrative headquarters of Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State, following the death of a middle aged man and his son.

The deceased, identified as Kareem Ajiboye, was  until his untimely death, a popular electrician operating in the ancient community.

The unfortunate incident which has thrown the whole area into mourning, almost marred the celebration of a traditional festival currently going in the town.

According to a source in the community,  on the fateful day, the late electrician was working on an electric pole located at the central of the town and directly opposite his  house.

The source added that the man was  making effort  to connect a life wire that fell from an electric pole in front of his house, while his 10-year-old son  was  watching his father, before the life wire fell on them.

The duo were rushed to a private hospital located few meters away from the scene of the incident where they were later confirmed dead by the doctors.

The source said the deceased, until his untimely death was a prominent member of the Electrical Contractor Association of Nigeria (ECAN) Aramoko-Ekiti branch.

Some residents of the town who spoke under condition of anonymity, described the death of the late electrician and his son as unfortunate.

They  added that the late electrician, a father of three had been the permanent customer of the people of the area, especially those whose light were disconnected.

When contacted, a senior member of ECAN, Aramoko-Ekiti branch, who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed the report of the incident and described the death of the deceased and his son as unfortunate.

He explained that the deceased, who was a prominent member of the association wanted to connect a life wire that fell on the ground in order to avert further electrocution before he met his untimely death.

Also contacted, the Business Manager, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Aramoko-Ekiti Business District, was not available for comment as he was said to have travelled out of the town on an official assignment.

Confirming the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Aramoko-Ekiti, a Superintendent of Police, said the corpses of the father  and his son have been released to the family after thorough investigation.

The police boss said the report of the unfortunate incident has been forwarded to the appropriate section at the Ekiti State Police Command headquarters, in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
