Two remanded for snatching 13m trucks

Two middle aged men, who allegedly snatched two trucks worth N13million at gun point, have been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court.

The duo defendants; Musa Lawan,36,and Ugwo Dickson, were  arraigned in court by the operatives of the State Criminal  Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Osun State Police Command.

Lawan and Dickson, who were earlier  arrested  in Osogbo and transferred to Abuja, were brought back to the State to face charges of conspiracy to commit  felony and wit armed  robbery.

According to the prosecution, the duo and others at large on October 11, 2021 in Osogbo Magisterial District conspired to commit armed robbery.

The charge sheet read in part, ” That you,  Musa Lawan and Ugwo Dickson, in the same date, time and place, armed yourselves with guns and other dangerous weapons to rob one Joachim Dominic and Joshua Momoh of one Mitsubishi Truck and one Benz Truck both valued at N13million, property of one Esohe Timothy.

The alleged offence contravenes  Sections 1(1) and 1(1)(2)of Armed Robbery and Fire Arms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Volume 14 Laws of Federation of 2004.

The police prosecutor, Mr James Idoko, an ASP told the court to remand the defendants in prison considering the gravity of offences allegedly committed.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him duplicate the case file and forward same to the  Director of Public  Prosecutions (DPP), in the

State Ministry of Justice for  advice.

The defendants had no legal representation.

The trial Magistrate, O. A Daramola said since no plea was taken, the defendants are to be remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre.

She adjourned the case till August 9,2022 for mention pending the outcome of DPP’s advice.
