Opposition political parties have said that the sanction by the United Kingdom not to give visa to Nigerians who disrupt 2023 general elections would not hold water.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, was optimistic of the move to have positive effect on the country’s future elections in the long-run.
Speaking with The Hope, the State Chairman, ADC, Mr. Olaide Rasheed said the idea by U.K was an embarrassment on the part of Nigeria to deploy denial of visa as factor to make the 2023 general elections peaceful.
He maintained that the sanction by Britain would not be effective but makes the polls more pressurized than it suppose to be following the level at which politicians and Nigerians will be insinuating dangerous political plans to win the election.
“The people that will make the elections not peaceful are within us in the country. There are people outside politics that can make election not peaceful as a result of their selfish interest.
“Thugs can also transfer unnecessary aggression during election,” he stated
The State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, posited that the Nigeria does not need foreign countries in solving its problem, adding that no other countries could understand Nigeria’s problem than Nigerians.
Peretei added that if not for the economic situation resulted in widespread impoverishment , saying that there was no reason Nigerians should travel to U.K.
“If our leaders are determined to find lasting solution to our problems, Nigeria will come back to normal” he assured
Also, the State Director, Media and Publicity of the APC, Mr. Steve Otaloro, was of the opinion that the development would serve as deterrent to others if some people were caught in the position to disrupt the elections and made to face the wrath of law.
Otaloro, who noted the action by Britain might not have immediate effect said it would make intention by unscrupulous people to disrupt future elections gradually eradicated.
