We’re committed to training, retraining of workers for delivery – SSG

Ondo State Government said planning and commitment in getting things done properly is the panacea to sustainable development in Nigeria.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Princess Oladunni Odu stated this while giving an overview of the state at a 2-day lecture for participants of the Senior Executive Course 43, year 2021 of the National Institute For Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, Jos.
The training with the theme ‘Getting things done: Strategies for policy and programme implementation ln Nigeria” was held at the Public Service Training Institute , PSTI, Ilara- Mokin, Ondo State.
The SSG posited that the theme was apt in ensuring that people do things correctly as it seeks to address the fundamentals efficient for public policy implementation in Nigeria.
Princess Odu reiterated the state government’s commitment to invest in training and retraining of public servants to ensure effective service delivery.
Giving an overview of the state, the SSG informed that the programme of change of the present government tagged “REDEEMED” has positively impacted all sectors in the state.
In an interview, the Director of Studies in the National Institute and leader of the team, Prof. Oluwafunmilayo Para-Mallam explained that they were in the state on Presidential mandate to consider the theme, noting that Nigeria has a track record of not getting things done or not getting them done in the right way.
She informed that in recognition of this in the national polity,it was realised that governance in Nigeria needs effective service delivery, adding that they mandated them to go round 14 states which Ondo State is one of them to ask what are the framework, issues, challenges, and obstacles of getting things done properly.
The Director pointed out that during the tour of states,she discovered that leadership matters in change while reform of getting things done was driven by leadership.”Commitment and understanding of good governance in leadership is important”.
While saying that the team will put up a lot of recommendations in implementation strategy both for the Federal and States ,to showcase the best practices of getting things done, she averred that Nigeria deserves good governance through effective service delivery.
Prof.Para-Mallam noted that she was very impressed with the reform agenda of the state, especially the linkages with sustainable goal through institutionalisation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Special Services Department, Joseph-Dele Adesanmi said that the session was organised as part of the team-study tour of the state, stating that the topic was crucial as it seeks to reflect the country’s bane of not getting things done properly.
