Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu yesterday renamed the Akure Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) as the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure in order to improve qualitative health care delivery.
The Governor also promised to fortify security in the hospital to prevent residents harassing staff.
He disclosed this on Tuesday while commissioning medical and surgical building at Mother and Child hospital, Akure on Tuesday.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka explained that it was important to expand the range of services beyond maternal and child care at the Akure MCH, so that residents can enjoy unhindered access to qualitative health care.
He said that it now provides medical, surgical, dental and other services noting that plans are underway to recruit more personnel in the health sector to replace those who have left the system.
He reveal that the health insurance scheme of government has commenced with beneficiaries enjoying access to health care at no out of pocket payment.
He reiterated government commitment towards improving the lives of residents and health sector by extension.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm. Folukemi Aladenola said that the Ministry is determined to take the health sector to a greater height.
He charged staff to make good use of the building stating that they should take ownership and take care of it.
He said that ministry will continue to be up and doing adding that staff should be cooperative for effective healthcare delivery in the state.
In his goodwill message, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Prof. Francis Faduyile noted that government taught it needful for Akure to benefit maximally from the health programmes of the present government by putting in place a specialist hospital for them.
He commended government for putting in place the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission especially the commencement of one of its products; Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) stating that it will enable care management and treatment move tremendously urging all to key into the health insurance package of government.
Chairman, Landlord Association, Oke Aro, Philip Oyegoke commended government for putting in place the hospital and also upgrading it to a specialist hospital.
