The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has confirmed the death of two of its officers following an ambush attack by suspected criminal elements in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.

The incident occurred on August 11, 2026, as the officers were returning from their base around the Ago-Oyinbo farming area, near Ala Daadaa, when they came under a sudden attack by the assailants.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Amotekun Corps, Ondo State Command, S.A. Jimoh O. Adeniken, the attackers engaged the officers in a fierce gun battle.

Despite the resistance put up by the security personnel, two officers were killed, while another sustained serious injuries in the attack.

The statement said the command immediately deployed reinforcements to the area following the incident, with the aim of tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

It added that the corps had intensified patrols, security operations and intelligence gathering in the affected area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of the safety of their lives and property.

The Ondo State Government, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps and the management of the agency commiserated with the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers, describing their sacrifice and commitment to protecting residents as worthy of commendation.

The corps urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

Meanwhile, the families of the fallen officers have expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Government, the Amotekun Commander and the management of the corps for giving their loved ones befitting burials.

The families also appealed to the state government to consider members of the deceased officers’ families in future recruitment exercises into the corps and extend other benefits due to them.

The Amotekun Corps vowed not to be deterred by the incident, stressing that it would continue to work with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and ensure that they face justice.
