The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal ‘baby factory’ in Mowe, a community in the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children.
A baby factory is where opposite sexes are recruited or conscripted to copulate and babies produced through the process are put up for sale.
Six suspects were arrested in connection with the suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
Operatives of the Mowe Division carried out the operation at about 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, following sustained intelligence on activities at a hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption had been taking place at the facility over time.
The two pregnant women rescued during the operation were identified as 23-year old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year old Ejekwa Melody, who is eight months pregnant.
Police also recovered four young children, two boys and two girls, from the location.
The suspects arrested were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39, and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
The command said further intelligence-led investigations took operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
While Effiong was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, police said the whereabouts of her newborn could not be accounted for. The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as investigators work to locate the missing infant.
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said the investigation would seek to establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and bring all culpable persons to justice.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for what he described as their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime in the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious activities.
