All is set for the fourth edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition, with clubs from all 18 local government areas of Ondo State expected to participate.

Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu has consistently sponsored the Adu Unity Football Competition over the past three years, with this year’s tournament marking the fourth edition.

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Raymond AbdulSalam, disclosed in an interview with SPORTING HOPE in Akure that the fourth edition would be an improvement on previous editions.

He said the competition had continued to grow every year, adding that the prize money for this year’s tournament would be higher than that of last year.

According to him, “The winner will go home with N3 million, the runner-up will receive N2 million, while the third-place team will get N1 million.

There will also be other individual awards, while each registered team will receive quality souvenirs.”

AbdulSalam said this year’s edition would be played across all 18 local government areas, a major departure from previous editions.

“This year’s edition will be played across the 18 local government areas, which is a great departure from previous years. We want to extend grassroots development beyond Akure, the state capital.

“Ondo State is blessed with talented football players; therefore, we want to take the development of football to the real grassroots,” he said.

AbdulSalam also told Sport Extra that both foreign and local scouts would be part of the competition to identify budding talents across the state.

He added that the competition would kick off on September 26, while registration is still ongoing.
