The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has implored the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to continue collaborating with other security agencies with a view to making the state safe and adequately secured.

This is just as the Governor appreciated the Corps’ giant stride in the protection of lives and property in the state.

Akeredolu stated this during the celebration of the World Civil Defence Day held in Akure, the state capital.

The Governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the celebration was unique and happening at a time people were yearning for adequate security.

He said the contribution and collaborative efforts of the men of the NSCDC was part of the reasons the state was labelled one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

The governor, also said that the corps had done well in one of their core mandates, which was protection of critical federal government’s assets in the state.

“I want to implore you to further collaboration with other security agencies and to continue to strive for a safer Ondo State,” he said.

Earlier, the Ondo State Commandant of NSCDC, Dr Hammed Abodunrin said the celebration was being done in the spirit of volunteerism, simultaneously in over 190 countries of the world.

Abodunrin said the Corps had already trained 500 volunteers on disaster and crisis management as part of the celebration of the day.

He said that the corps had organised quiz in which 400 secondary school students participated and top three were rewarded with scholarship and cash prizes.

Those in attendance were other service Chiefs, representative of Chief Justice of Ondo state, Deji of Akure Land, Chief Imam of Akure, Akure South local government Chairman and others.
