Allow your children to participate in Sports parents urged

Parents have been admonished to allow their children to participate in sporting activities.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Lola Amuda who made this call at the 6th Inter House Sports Competition of the School for the Hearing Impaired, Akure said her ministry will continue to promote sports in all schools in Ondo State.
She said it’s important for students to involve in the total package the state government has for the education, which included cognitive, affective and psychomotor.
She added that sports is part of education, adding that students are not meant to only be exposed to teaching and learning.
According to her, “what we are doing here is a psychomotor domain of education, whereby children are given the opportunity to exercise their bodies through sporting activities. ”
I will encourage parents to allow their wards to participate in sporting activities. Some of them could become professionals tomorrow, there are lots people who don’t get their sources of lively hood from the academic, but sports, like footballers, Table Tennis players, sprinters and many others.”
The Chairman of Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, OSRC, Mr Kunle Adebayo commended the school’s management for organizing a befitting sporting event for the special students. This he said would make them feel as part of the society.
Mr Adebayo represented by Mr Wahab Bankole urged the well to do in the society to join hands with the government to develop sports in the state.
The principal of the School, Mr Mike Ologbese averred that combining sports with education is the total development of any child, saying as class work is important for their development so is sporting activities.
Ologbese said the future is bright for any of the outstanding athletes among the students stressing that the school management will present them to the state sports council for further development.
He said: “There are lots of student who had represented the country, the state and some are currently with the sports council and they are doing well.”
Parents at the event thanked the school management for giving the pupils sense of belonging.
Meanwhile, Blues House emerged as the overall winners of the spotting competition, with 357 points while Red came second with 319 points and Yellow and Green House came third and fourth with 285 and 282 points respectively.
Invited Schools included Visually Impaired Owo, Physically Challenged, Ikare, and Intellectually Impaired, Oke-Igbo.
