A middle-aged commercial motorcyclist, Oluwasusi Oluwafemi, has approached a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Oke-Eda, Akure, to dissolve his 10-year-old marriage, alleging his wife of being a troublemaker and having bad luck.

The petitioner, Oluwafemi, a father of three told the court that his estranged wife was a terror, saying her attitude killed the love they had for each other at the early years of their union.

He said his wife, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oluwasusi, usually packed her belongings out of their rented apartment to an unknown area in Akure, without his permission, whenever they have quarrel.

” Right from onset, my wife has been misbehaving in my house. She always quarreled with me because of her regular and continuous disobedience, including the new life she suddenly chose to live.

“She does not see my family as anything.

She used to curse my mother and abuse her all the time. She is bad luck to me.

“I tried all my possible best to make our marriage work, but my wife does not value our relationship. I contributed in a thrift society and when I collected the money, I kept it in our wardrobe. My wife went there and took N150,000 without my consent. She only said she borrowed the money and she would give me later. But till now, she has not refunded the money.

” I did another thrift to buy land. So, when I collected the money, I kept it. But my wife took N100,000 from the money and gave it to her sister that borrowed money from Lapo. I could not use the money for my initial plan.

The petitioner added that his wife arrested him while policemen seized his motorcycle over a month till now.

“I started experiencing setback in my business which invariably took its toll on our survival. It became a herculean task feeding my family on daily basis while our children’s unpaid school fees began to escalate.

“The more I tried to appeal to her senses, the more resolute she was.

“I was living a comfortable life before I married her. I showered her with much attention and gifts while we were dating. But immediately she moved in, my fortune began to nosedive.

“My lord, I  noticed that any time I confided in my wife about any contract I was pursuing, I would never get it. But if I kept it away from her, it would be awarded to me.

“Any time she knew or she was involved in anything that would enhance my life, the plan would naturally meet a  brick wall. It took a while before I realized she was afflicted with bad luck.

“My lord, I want to move on with my life and this has spurred my decision of seeking a divorce legally, “Oluwafemi stated.

The respondent, Oluwatosin Oluwasusi, 35, a trader, told the court that she was not opposed to the petitioner’s prayer for divorce.

She explained that the petitioner always abused her and was fond of calling her unpleasant names.

“My husband cannot tolerate me. I may be playing with him sometimes, he would just look at me and say, “See the way you are laughing like a mad woman.” He likes insulting me as if I am nobody.

“I stood by him. I suffered in his house, so that we could become successful in life. He is adamant to correction and doesn’t take my advice.

“He just hates me for no reason. I don’t know what I did to deserve the treatment from my husband.

“He was the one that deflowered me. He deceived me when he was telling me that he would be my father and everything to me. But when I got to his house, the story changed,” she narrated.

The President of the Court, Mrs Temitope Falana, ordered both parties to embrace peace and adjourned the case till May 13, 2024, for determination.
