Commissioner decries rate of cultism, drug abuse
Ondo State government has decried the increasing rate of anti-social activities, such as drug abuse and cultism in the state.
The government, which described the rising cases of criminal activities as worrisome, said sporting activities should not be used to perpetrate evil in the state.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Otunba Dele Ologun stated these while addressing newsmen in his office on Monday.
Ologun made reference to the latest incident in which a student died at Agolo High School, Ikare Akoko, during the inter-house sports competition of the school.
It will be recalled that two rival cult groups on March 10 engaged each other in a battle at the school premises during the sport competition which resulted in the death of a student.
The commissioner called on the police and the National Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to intensify efforts at curbing the menace in the state.
“Our institutions are places of learning and sporting activities should not be used as a Tool to perpetrate violence.
“There is the need for all security and law enforcement agencies in the state to ensure that there is drastic reduction of anti social activities amongs students in Ondo state,” he said.
