Nigerians have been urged to get themselves vaccinated against contracting the deadly COVID-19 as the vaccine was not designed to kill people, but to save lives.
The National Vice President II of Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Dr Oyelami Saliu made the declaration while playing host to members of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations of Nigeria FOMWAN in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Dr Saliu advised those who have not been vaccinated, to do so with a view to protecting themselves.
While reaffirming that the vaccine was not meant to kill people, he noted that there might be a level of reaction on some people but that arrangement has been made to ensure that such people are taken care of.
According to him, those reported to have been affected in the developing countries are only few from those who took the vaccine and that their immune system were not strong enough.
He said the medical sector is ready to partner with FOMWAN to carry out an enlightenment programme aimed at sensitising the people and the rural dwellers.
Oyelami, who disclosed that there were limited number of Muslim women in the health sector, urged prospective female youths to venture into the sector to unveil their niqobs (face cover) during the pursuance of their professional certificate till after graduation.
According to him, this will increase the number of Muslims in the health sector to take care of those who wish to be attended to by the Muslim faithful.
The State Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Akinpelumi Abeebullahi assured of the readiness of the association to partner the medical practitioners in sensitizing the people on the need and importance of immunizing themselves against Coronavirus.
Akinpelumi , who led the delegation during the visit, advised the ‘niqobite’ sister to do away with the use of niqobs (face cover) and to abide by the rules and regulations of the governing council.
This, she said, was for a period of time which they can easily cover back as soon as they are done.
