FRSC urges safety during yuletide

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has warned members of the public and road users to pay special attention to  safety while driving, stating that life is not  car part that can be replaced.

This call was made by the Corps Marshal of the Commission, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi while briefing newsmen in Akure during the week as part of the activities lined up to commemorate the “world day of remembrance for victims of road traffic crashes”, themed “Life is not a car part”.

According to Dr Boboye, who was represented by the Ondo state commander of the commission, Mr Rotimi Adeleye said “the theme of this years’ commemoration, was carefully chosen to enable people of the world reflect on the sanctity of life and the fact that once taken, it cannot be replaced, unlike the car parts that are replaceable.

He also assured members of the public that the commission would continue to work with strategic stakeholders to ensure members of the public were adequately sensitised on safe road use, especially during the yuletide.

“I assure you that as we gradually come to the end of the year when traffic volume normally heighten and the rate of road traffic crashes become pervasive, we are devising measures to curtail the challenges and enhance safety and security of road users,” he said.

The FRSC boss noted that many human lives were being put at risk due to avoidable road mishaps, stating that there was an urgent need to address the menace through appropriate measures.

He added that the commission would aggressively enforce traffic rules and regulations to serve as deterrent to violators.

Other activities lined up in commemoration of the day included media chat, motorcade, Jumaa’t service, executive walk, hospital visitation and church service.
