The re-elected Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun and his Deputy, Mr. lroju Ogundeji have said their re-emergence was as a result of robust sessions led by them in the eighth assembly.

The speaker and his deputy said this shortly after the inauguration of the ninth assembly.

The duo who were among the newly inaugurated legislators for third and second time respectively were happy with their newly occupied positions and assured the people of the state that they would give their best in supporting the executive arm of government by passing into laws bills that will fasttrack the development of the state.

In his acceptance speech, the Speaker thanked the people of the state and both the lawmakers in the eighth and ninth assemblies for the confidence reposed in him.

He affirmed that a lot of great achievements were recorded in the last assembly and which were productive in developing the state.

Among them were the passing of 45 bills into laws and adoptions of various resolutions and motions that would benefit the residents of the state.

Oleyelogun said that following these achievements and for it to be continued, the newly elected lawmakers returned him unopposed as a speaker for the ninth assembly.

His words “Analysis on typical issues affecting the lives of the people and the judiciary among others was an indication of our best performance.

“Ministries, Departments and Agencies were kept under close watch through oversight functions.

“We were not rubber stamps as all bills were screened to the letter “

The speaker, who noted that no arm of government can exist in isolation urged all arms of government to work in cordial relations with each other.

He said the adequate preparation and support of the lawmakers in the eight assembly made it possible for him to work effectively as a speaker and therefore appealed to the current legislators to build on the good record in the interest of the state.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Iroju Ogundeji said the achievements recorded in the last assembly under the watch of Oleyelogun earned him (Oleyelogun) the right to be returned as the speaker.

He said “The legislature under the leadership of the speaker in the last assembly was well coordinated and this led to his return as the speaker”

Ogundeji pledged that the ninth assembly would perform and beat the achievements recorded in the eighth assembly through provision of good leadership that will improve on the development in the state.

According to him “Bills that will have direct impact on people will be passed into laws as well as resolutions and motions for the interest of the state and its people will be adopted.”
