Ikare Muslim Council sacks Chief Imam… League of Imams kicks

The crisis that rocked the Ikare Muslim Community some months ago and settled by the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,  may have been stirred up again as members of Ikare Muslim Council said they have sacked the Chief Imam of the community, Sheikh Abubakar Muhammed Abbas.

The news of the sack was contained in a letter, purportedly issued by the council and signed by its chairman, Adewale Jimoh Abayomi and the secretary, Alhaji R. Ayeigbusi, respectively.

In the letter, titled, “Termination of Appointment,”issued on October 10, 2022 and addressed to the Chief Imam, the council said in its meeting of October 9, 2022, the council agreed on the termination of the Sheikh Abbas as the Chief Imam of Ikare, which the Okukare of Ikare, Oba Saliu Akadiri Momoh IV, also approved.

The letter was also copied to all the heads of security agents in the state and the town.

Meanwhile, the League of Imams and Alfas in the state has reacted swiftly to the sack news, positing that it does not support the termination of the Chief Imam.

In a press release by the Secretary of the the League, it reminded the parties on the need to abide by the decision and resolution of the crisis by the Ondo State Government.

“I am  directed by the Chairman League of Imams and Alfas Ondo State to inform the Muslim Community of Ondo State, particularly Ikare Muslim Community that the decision of the Government of Ondo State vice a vice the problem in Ikare Muslim Community is still in place.

“The problem which has been resolved by the government should not be allowed to rear its ugly head again.

“The league of Imams and Alfas, Ondo State is not in support of the removal or sacking of the Chief Imam of Ikare Akoko which is being rumored about in the state.

“The league of Imams and Alfas Ondo stood firmly stand with the government verdict which its white paper was already out to the concerned groups.

“In the light of the above therefore, every individuals or groups should allow peace to reign in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State.”

Meanwhile, neither the Olukare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Akadiri Momoh IV nor the Chief Imam of Ikare, Sheikh Abubakar Muhammed Abbas, could be reached as at the time of filing this report.
