The people of Akoko have resolved to complement the efforts of security agents in curbing security challenges in the area.

They made this known at an expanded meeting of the Police Public Relations Commitee of the Ikare Police Area Command with all stakeholders in the area.

According to them, they will be involving all the local hunters and local vigilante groups in this regard.

They commended security agents for proper monitoring of the Auga/Use/Akunnu axis which has led to the drastic reduction in the rate of crimes like kidnapping and robberies in the area.

Equally, the people called on landlords and community leaders in the area to be vigilant about strange faces in their midst and give information to the police and other security outfits approximately.

In the same vein, they have resolved to tag the riding of motorcycles without registration numbers as a grievous offence

The Caretaker Chairman of Akoko Northeast Local Government, Mr Ashimi Omojola, said security matters is everybody’s business as the police cannot be everywhere.

Omojola promised to have meeting with his colleagues from the remaining three local government councils in Akoko land on how to make Akoko roads safe, saying this is one of the ways by which investors can come and farmers go to their farms without fear of being kidnapped.

“Akoko has witnessed a lot of security  challenges in recent time as climaxed in the kidnappings of some high profiled indigenes among whom were former regent of Akungba, Toyin Omosowon, the wife of Alauga of Auga, Mrs Kemi Agunloye, the Olubaram of Ibaram Akoko, Iba Sunday Daodu and his second in command, Pastor Jide Ipinsagba just to mention a few.
