Labourer in court for assault

A 49-year-old Labourer, Sunday Irem has been dragged before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo town, for willingly and unlawfully pour cooking beans on one Ezekiel Adeyemi.
The police brought Irem before the court on Monday for grievously harm on the complaint by pour cooking beans on his right shoulder which caused him burn and bleached skin.
The defendant is facing one – count charge bothering on grievous harm, however, he pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence September 2 ,2020 at about 2:45pm at Iluha camp via Ondo, contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal code cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The charge sheet read in part,”That you, Sunday Irem on September 2,2020 at about 2:45pm at iluha camp via Ondo, in the Ondo magisterial district did grievously harm one Ezekiel Adeyemi by willingly and unlawfully pour cooking beans on his right shoulder which cause him burn and bleach skin and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355 of the Criminal code cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The police prosecutor, Akao Moremi who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
The defendant was not legally represented in court and however, pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, while they must show evidence of gainfully employed, attached affidavit of means, passport of the defendant and sureties must be attached also the court orderly must verify the address of the house and place of work respectively.
Sekoni adjourned the case till September 21, 2020 for hearing.
