A 26-year-old man, Muhammed Sanusi, has appeared before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over alleged armed robbery.

The Police arrested the defendant after he robbed one Pastor Aderinola Emmanuel, of his phone and money.

Muhammed was charged with two counts of armed robbery and dangerous weapons.

The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on September 3, 2022 at about 4:30pm at Obanla junction, Akure.

Omhenemhen said the defendant was armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, when he robbed the victim of his Redmi Note 10 handset valued at N91,000 and N120,000 cash.

The offences, according to the charge contravene Sections 6, 1&2(a&b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Acts Cap RIl, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

After the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.

But the defendant’s counsel, Abel Kosoko, however raised an objection to the prosecutor’s remand application. He pleaded with the court to give him time to investigate the matter.

He also prayed the court to remand his client in police custody pending the conclusion of investigation.

In her ruling, Magistrate O.R Yakubu granted the application of the defendant’s counsel.

She ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody where he had been since arrest, and adjourned the case till April 11 for ruling on the application.
