Man defrauds POS operators, arraigned

A 25-year-old man, Wasiu Oderinde has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for defrauding Point Of Sale (POS) operators in Osun State.

The accused person fraudulently collected N500,000 from POS operators in Ile-Ife, Modakeke and Osogbo respectively.

Oderinde and others still at large allegedly committed the offence between December 29, 2021 to January 2022 in Ile-Ife, Modakeke and Osogbo in Osun State.

He was also, alleged to have defrauded one Salako Festus of N95,000 in Modakeke.

The Police Prosecutor, Benjamin Nweke informed the court that the accused person fraudulently collected N500,000 using an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card number 5399412216652649; with the name Afeez Ojolowo from POS operators in the three communities.

The offence committed contravenes Sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code 34 Vol 2, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

The Defence counsel, J.P Joles prayed the court to grant the accused person bail in liberal terms.

Magistrate Asimiyu Adebayo, in his ruling, granted the accused person bail in the with sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till March 24, 2022 for hearing.
