A 28-year-old man, Umaru Muhammed, has been arraigned before an Ondo Magistrate’s Court for alleged stealing and intent to kill one Oluwole Oladipupo with matches.
Muhammed was arraigned before the court on Wednesday on five counts of charges bothering on stealing, a threat to life and malicious damage.
The defendant alongside one other at large was alleged of unlawful entry into a plot of land at about 4:00 pm, without their consent.
He was also alleged to have unlawfully stolen bags of cement, pipes and nets used for fencing the land.
Muhammed was further alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously damaged the pipes and fence wire valued at N4,500,000, property of Oladipupo at Panrobber Camp, Oke-Igbo, in Oke-Igbo Magisterial District of Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Charles Olagbayi, said the offence contravenes Sections 516(a), 81, 86(i), 451(i) A and B, 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge.
Olagbayi, therefore applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Anthony Olokunboro, prayed the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mr Victor Oloye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till April 19, 2023, for trial.
