My life, children in danger, surveyor cries out

A 47-year-old Surveyor, Olayemi Michael Idowu has raised alarm over a death threat to his life and that of his family, particularly his children.

The threat according to him was on the account of his refusal to accept the doctrine of the family.

The doctrine according to Mr Idowu was to accept the succession of his father as a member of Ogboni confraternity and as the only son of his parents.

Olayemi Idowu a graduate from The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti and a native of Isan-Ekiti was born to a family where Obaisa, one of the hierarchy in the town is installed.

He said he has been living with his uncle in Ondo town in Ondo State for a very long time while he lost his elder sister and his mother in the year 2000 and 2021 respectively.

Idowu born into the family of four said he was surprised when he paid visit to his father on June 12, 2022 and his father informed him of his membership of ogboni confraternity and declared that he has registered him as his successor being the only son.

This didn’t go down well with him, based on his spiritual inclination as a Christian.

“I paid my daddy a visit once in a while until June 12, 2022 … that my father told me he belongs to Ogboni Confraternity and he has pledged being an old man that I will be his replacement. This sound strange because I didn’t have pre- knowledge that he belongs to this group.

“I told him that this is against my Christian belief. He also told me that their search light (Africa charm) is beyond what I could escape and if I paradventure refused, that my life is at stake. “

According to him, the confraternity requires cutting a part of their flesh during initiation, and as well removing part of their organ before burial when a member is dead and all these are against his spiritual belief.

He said he has be receiving several calls threatening his life since he rejected the offer of being a member of the confraternity to the extent that he had to relocate all his family to Ondo town on December 16, 2022 while sleeping from one church to the other to save his life in Lagos.

“And since the said date that I refused to be member of the group, I had received several calls of life threatening calls and messages from hidden phone numbers telling me my life is not safe unless I join the group. It got to the extent that I reported the case to the police but to no avail.

“This threats got to the extent that I had to move my family to Ondo town in December 16, 2022 while I work in Lagos sleeping in churches for safety.”
