The Ondo State Government has announced the immediate ban on building of new hotels in Alagbaka Government Reserved Area (GRA) and Ijapo Estate in Akure, the state capital.

The government also placed a ban on operation of beer parlour joints and clubs or other activities that disturb the peace of residents in the two affected Government Reserved Areas.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, who briefed Government House reporters after the weekly Executive Council Meeting, explained that operation of beer parlours and joints in the Government Reserved Areas is inimical to the public peace in the state.

He said though all the licensed existing hotels in the affected areas would continue their operations, those under construction without necessary permit should stop work immediately.

According to him, the affected areas were meant for residential purposes, saying that government would no longer give approval for building of hotels in the GRA.

The commissioner noted that the decision was part of proactive measures by the government to forestall any breach of public peace, especially in Government Reserved Areas which were exclusively planned for residence.

”No more hotel in Alagbaka GRA and Ijapo Estates. Government will no longer give approval to anyone, and if there is anyone currently building hotel in these neighborhood without approval, they should stop immediately. And if you already have an approval that is over two years and you have not started, that approval has also become invalid henceforth.

“Henceforth, no beer parlour, no joint, no club is allowed in those places mentioned”, he stressed.

Olowolabi noted that the major decisions were taken at the EXCO meeting.

He also said government has approved formally the renaming of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa, to Olusegun Kokumo Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, (OKAUTECH).

It would be recalled that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had earlier announced that the University would be renamed after the late Governor Olusegun Agagu to immortalise him.

Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, who joined Olowolabi in the briefing announced that government has approved the appointment of Prince Richard Ayodele as the Onise-elect of Ise-Akoko.
