Parents of students writing government examinations in Ondo state have been urged to ensure that their children report at the centres ahead of the commencement of such examination.

Permanent Secretary of Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Lola Amuda made the appeal while she led a team to monitor the conduct of entrance examination into Unity Secondary Schools in the state.

According to her, about 16,000 candidates wrote the examination in 77 centres across the state which is higher than last year’s figure.

Amuda who stated that entrance examination into public secondary schools across the state will come up on July 2, bemoaned the idea of parents bringing their children to centres when examination has commenced.

“As you can see, the examination is peaceful and orderly except  that some children came late for the exam. Some even came after the first paper had finished. So we want to appeal to our parents to prepare these children and make sure they report early.

“And we do announce our examinations ahead of time, so we don’t expect anybody to come late. At least, they should get there by 8am because accreditation starts by 8am while examination commences by 9am,” she explained.

While advising parents to drop their children at the examination centres and come back to pick them after the exam, Amuda said the idea of clustering the schools gates while examination is ongoing is not good.

Speaking on the performances of Owo, Ode Aye and Epinmi  Akoko Unity Secondary Schools converted into day and boarding system last year, Amuda said enrollment into the day school is commendable.

She lauded the efforts of the communities to ensure the success of the schools.

Some of the centres visited include Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure, St Dominic’s High School, Okuta Elerinla, St Peter’s Unity Secondary School, Akure, Omoluorogbo Grammar School, Akure.

Others are CAC Grammar School, Akure, St Louis Girls’ Grammar School, CAC Adu Memorial, Akure and Aquinas College Akure.
