Police arrest housewife over self- kidnapping in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the arrest of a housewife and mother of two, Sule Nana, for allegedly kidnapping herself in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osin local government area of Ekiti State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, the suspect until her arrest, was a wife of a bricklayer in Ifaki-Ekiti.
She was said to have put a distress call to the office of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to the command and informed them that she was kidnapped alongside other passengers while traveling along Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti road.
Abutu added that the suspect equally called her husband and informed him that she was kidnapped by yet to be identified persons and was whisked away to a bush which she could not identify the location.
He added that few minutes later, the suspect called her husband and informed him that the kidnappers have demanded for a sum of N50,000 before she could regain her freedom from the captivity of the kidnappers.
The move, which he said had prompted the officials of the RRS to swing into action by combing all the forest along Ifaki/Oye-Ekiti before it was later discovered that Nana framed her kidnapping apparently to get money from her husband and relatives.
The PPRO said the suspect who is currently detained at the command headquarters in Ado-Ekiti had made a confessional statement that could assist the police in the investigation.
The police spokesperson, however reiterated the readiness of the police in the state to continue to ensure the safety of lives and property of the residents.
He equally commended the cooperation of the people of the state for their prompt information, the move which he said has served as a morale booster to the officers and men of the command.
