Police arrest officers over N50 bribe

Policemen deployed to Akungba-Ikare Akoko road in Ondo State who were alleged have threatened to kill some drivers and passengers over their refusal to offer N50 bribe have been apprehended.
They were nabbed on the order and directive of the State Police Commissioner, Mr Bolaji Salami.
It will be recalled that some policemen who wore police vests without name tags on their uniforms were said to have harassed some innocent citizens and also hit one of the passengers.
Sources said they used white police vehicle with an inscription “Akungba Division.”
One of the passengers who spoke anonymously, called on the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, to sanction the erring officers before they cause crisis or kill innocent citizens over bribe.
According to some motorists, they said some policemen have mounted a roadblock on Akungba-Ikare road and were behaving like drunks.
They, therefore called on the authority of the State Police Command to always supervise their men posted to various check points so as to prevent any case of accidental discharge.
A competent police source who confirmed the development, said the affected policemen have been arrested and detained for onward disciplinary action.
He said, they might likely undergo orderly trial to ascertain their level of involvement in the alleged offence
“We don’t condole indiscipline in the Force. And that is why they have been arrested and detained at the Criminal and Intelligence Department SCIID, pending the conclusion of the trial.
