A chieftain of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Cultural Group, Afenifere, Chief Femi Aluko, has hinted that the present level of poverty in the country would make it difficult for Nigerians to elect good leaders.
He explained that leadership is the major problem hindering the country from being developed.
A chieftain of the group, who stated this in an interview with The Hope said Nigerians would continue to vote in bad elements in the midst of hunger where voters are lured with money to elect selfish leaders.
He said Nigerians knew that government and politicians could not fulfill their campaign promises but were lured by money to vote for them.
“These are hungry voters. Once the politicians flashed money across their faces, they will vote because a hungry man has no choice.
“They have no choice than to vote for any idiot during election with the saying ‘Let me go and take my own share’ because they (politicians) have taken theirs in Abuja.
“Most Nigerians prefer to sell their votes at a price that will not sustain them for a week,” he said.
Aluko, who was former Commissioner for Information in the State noted that rich and educated people don’t bother to vote, having known that those to be voted for would not fulfill their campaign promises.
“Did l not vote in 2011, 2015 and 2019, what is my gain,” he asked.
Aluko, however, sought for the intervention of God to save Nigeria and the masses from problems facing the country.
