The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has advised leaders and members of the committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in-charge of the membership registration in the state to be more concerned about quality of the people who are really committed and interested in joining the ruling APC.
This is coming as the governor disclosed that a befitting new Secretariat of the party in the state would be ready before the year runs out.
Akeredolu who made the disclosure at a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the APC in the state and the national committee members in-charge of the registration exercise in the state led by Mr Murphy Lawal, particularly charged the party leaders to go after those who truly have the interest of the party at heart.
The committee was in the state to work with other leaders of the party in the state to conduct registration for new members and revalidation for old members in line with the directive of national leadership of the APC.
Governor Akeredolu stressed the need to attract only quality people and not quantity into the party, saying honesty and commitment to the party is non- negotiable.
“The important thing for me is that we should not register people who are not ready to show commitment to the party. To be a member of this party, we need commitment, and that commitment is about finance.
“Let us be concerned about quality and not quantity. People who can make a strong case for the party. There must be a point where we put the interest of the party first. Go after people who really have the interest to be members of this party”, he added.
Governor Akeredolu further revealed that the foundation laying for a befitting party secretariat for the state chapter of the party would be held this coming Saturday, and called on party members in the state to be ready to contribute generously to build the Secretariat.
He noted that before the APC secretariat was burnt down by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protest, the party had been planning to build a befitting party secretariat.
On his part, the Committee Chairman, Murphy Lawal applauded Governor Akeredolu for representing the party well by delivering dividends of good governance to the people.
Earlier in his remarks, the state APC Acting Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin described the APC as the most beautiful bride in Nigeria today, just as he lauded Governor Akeredolu for bringing hope to the state through infrastructure development.
“The APC is performing, particularly in Ondo State. We have performed. This governor has performed across the length and breadth of the state. My town, Idanre is a case study. This is a progressive state. It is noted for politicking and hospitality, he added.
