RUGIPO to commence online lectures

In the face of continuing lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ameliorate its impact on learning, the Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo has approved the online teaching of students through the e-learning portal of the institution’s website.

In a press release issued by the institution’s public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Ojo, the online lecturing would start on Thursday, May  14, 2020.

Speaking on behalf of the Rector, Mr. Adebola Gani Dahunsi, during the orientation programme organized for Deans, Heads of Departments and Supervisors of part-time programme, the Deputy Rector (Academics), Mr. Sunday Lawson, said the idea of E-learning became necessary to imbibe the online learning culture to keep students and lecturers engaged with their academics.

He stated that e-learning is now an academic culture that could be employed for learning without violating the social distance policy introduced to cub the spread of covid-19 virus. He, therefore, charge participarts to join hands with the management to make it work.

The Director of ICT, Mr. Olusegun Adeoni who demonstrated the mechanism and functionality of the e-learning portal to participants noted that the E-learning platform would afford both lecturers and students to carry out various academic activities. He further explained that the platform which could be used for both teaching and assessment would enable lecturers to remotely reach out to their students.

According to him, the online lecturing would commence on Thursday, 14th May 2020. He noted that only registered students would have ready access to the platform.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Rector(Admin), Engr. (Dr) Samuel Alagha, pointing to the fact that students have widespread communication platform enjoined lecturers to reach out to their course representatives through these platforms and intimate them accordingly.
