A 37-year-old teacher, identified as Kayode, was on Friday arrested by the Police at Yaba Division of Ondo town, for attempting to defile an eight-year-old girl (names withheld).
Reports had it that it took the quick intervention of neighbours who rescued the little girl from the man, who was trying to force his penis into the victim’s virginal.
The Hope Metro gathered that the victim was sent to cut scent leaves for her grandmother beside their house, when men the suspect forcefully dragged her into his room.
An eyewitness account told The Hope Metro that on the fateful day, the little girl did not go to school because her grandmother was ill.
The source, who identified herself as Mrs Grace Afolabi, narrated that when the girl was sent on errand to cut the scent leaves, she went in company of her friends.
Afolabi said the incident happened on Friday, at about 10:15am at Akinjagunla in Ondo West Local Government area of Ondo State.
“We were anxiously waiting for her to return home, but she did not come. So, I had to rush out to look for her. And as I was going out, the other little girls who accompanied her ran to me and alerted that a man dragged the victim inside one room and she was crying there.
“So, they took me to the house. And on getting there, lo and behold!, the door was locked and I could hear her shouting.
The woman said she forcefully opened the door and met the man with girl without her pant on.
“I had to drag the girl out. And the man locked the door again. So, I called on other people in the neighbourhood to come to our rescue.
“The neighbours who swung into action forcefully opened the door again and they dragged the suspect out of his room, afterwhich they called the police for his arrest,” she added.
The police at Yaba Division were said to have apprehended the suspect.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim said: “The man forced me inside his room and removed my pant with force. He laid on me and forced himself in my vagina before I was rescued by neighbours.
The Hope Metro further gathered that the victim’s pant and her slippers was recovered in the suspect’s room by the police and the victim was taken to hospital for medical report.
Police confirmed the incident. But they said the suspect has not penetrated.
“We are waiting for the medical report from general hospital in Ondo. Signal has been sent to the Public Relations Officer’s Office at Ondo State Police Command in Akure,” they said.
