Yoruba nation agitators storm Akure, demand Igboho’s release

Yoruba nation agitators yesterday stormed the Alagbaka Governor’s Office, Akure and demanded unconditional release of their leader, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho.
The protesters in their large numbers specifically called on the South-West Governors under the Chairmanship of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to work with traditional rulers, elder statesmen and opinion leaders in the South-West region to ensure speedy release of Sunday Igboho who had been held in captivity in Benin Republic for some months now.
The agitators under various groups across the State, who took their peaceful demonstration to the Governor’s Office to table their demand, noted that Sunday Igboho was only agitating for the safety and peace of the Yoruba race.
Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho was arrested in Benin Republic with various allegations which have brought a lot of uproar in the country.
Speaking yesterday, the Ondo State leader of the group, Mr. Victor Omojowo lauded the Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for being the voice of the voiceless in the state and the region, pleading with him to do all within his power to fast track the unconditional release of Sunday Adeyemo.
He explained that the protest which was ongoing simultaneously in all the South-West states was peaceful without any destruction of properties or killing.
In his response, Governor Akeredolu, applauded the people for organizing themselves in a peaceful manner without causing mayhem in the society.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, assured the protesters that plans were on to ensure safe return of Sunday Adeyemo to the country.
Akeredolu said he has always believed that anyone can protest but must be peaceful, also charged them to ensure they go back home without any form of destruction of lives and properties.
He explained that his aim has always been to protect his people, adding that was what he swore to do, and which he would continue to do.
