The Ondo state Chairman of the Special Public Works Scheme of the Federal Government, Mrs Bunmi Ademosun, has said the programme has started in the state in line with the federal government directive.
The Special Public Works Scheme is expected to engage 774,000 unemployed youths nationwide, while 18,000 people (1,000 per each local government) would benefit in the state.
Speaking with The Hope yesterday, Ademosun who is also the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Relations explained that the process of selecting the beneficiaries across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state was done according to the dictate of the federal government.
Ademosun said that the 20-member steering committee has already begun the distribution of the working tools across the 18 local government areas.
She added that as soon as the distribution is completed, the beneficiaries would commence work across the 18 council areas.
She said the beneficiaries would work in various areas including the hospitals, cleaning of the environment, such as gutter, traffic control, among others, while the graduates among them will serve as supervisors.
She said the various Committees set up to ensure smooth take off of the programme are seriously working both at the state and the local government levels for a successful exercise.
According to her, apart from the 20-member steering Special Public Works programme committee under her chairmanship, another committee at local government levels has also been set up for effective take off.
She said this comprised the traditional rulers, representatives of the youth, the NURTW, the market women and other relevant stakeholders to achieve success.
