The consensus- building initiative among aspirants of Northern extraction for the position of president under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was not a point to the fact that the party’s ticket has been zoned to the north.

The Ondo State chapter of the party, said this in an interview with The Hope against the backdrop of the meeting, the Governor of Bauchi, Bala Muhammed held with his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal  and the former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki on the need to have consensus presidential candidate from the Northern part of the country.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, appreciated the initiative of the trio, saying that it would douse tension in preparation for the next year general elections within the party.

He explained that the step taken  was a pointer to the fact on the need to build consensus to avoid division the primary election may cause.

“What they have simply done is a pointer to the fact that ,there is need to build consensus because primary elections as it were have capacity to divide party as people may not be comfortable with the outcome.

“It is better now they begin to talk so it will douse tension,” he said.

He added  that it was a process that may involve other aspirants to find a middle ground that will make the party not to involve itself in division.

“It is an initiative that should be saluted, appreciated and encouraged so that at the end of it there will be less rancour and acrimony in the process of selecting a candidate.
