Governance is measured not only by policies, but by the priorities leaders project through their actions.

Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s engagements during the week under review offered a clear insight into the trajectory of his administration, placing human capital development, economic expansion and political consolidation at the heart of governance.

Though diverse in focus, the week’s activities converged on a common objective: laying a stronger foundation for sustainable development in Ondo State.

The clearest demonstration of this vision came from the education sector. Beyond celebrating academic excellence, the governor transformed recognition into opportunity by approving automatic employment into the Ondo State Public Service for recipients of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) National Award.

He also presented ₦1 million each to the awardees during a ceremony honouring outstanding students, teachers and national award recipients at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor’s Office, Akure.

The gesture underscored the administration’s belief that excellence should attract meaningful rewards capable of inspiring greater achievement.

Describing the beneficiaries as worthy ambassadors of Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa said their academic excellence, innovation, discipline and commitment had brought honour to the Sunshine State.

“You have not only excelled in your various endeavours; you have become worthy ambassadors of the Sunshine State and shining examples for generations yet unborn,” he said.

The governor equally paid glowing tribute to teachers, describing them as the architects of human capital whose often overlooked contributions shape the future of society.

“Countries are not built by chance; they are built in classrooms by committed teachers who mould character, impart knowledge and inspire dreams. History may remember the achievers, but posterity will always honour those who nurtured them for greatness,” he stated.

He linked the initiative to the education component of the administration’s OUR EASE agenda, highlighting investments in classroom rehabilitation, school infrastructure, teacher recruitment and capacity building, digital learning, technical and vocational education, improved workers’ welfare and safer learning environments.

The honours covered seven NYSC National Award recipients, 54 candidates who scored above 300 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and students who represented Ondo State and Nigeria at international competitions in the United States, France and Uzbekistan.

While reinforcing investment in human capital, the governor also intensified efforts to position Ondo as a destination for large-scale agricultural investment.

Receiving the Chairman of Time Developers Limited, Yemi Aminu, alongside representatives of a Chinese agro-allied company proposing agricultural production and processing projects on up to 100,000 hectares of land, Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to partner with credible investors.

He described the proposal as a transformative investment capable of accelerating agricultural development and broadening the state’s economic base.

“If you are asking for 100,000 hectares, that is a huge investment. That means you have capacity and you are ready to invest heavily in our agri-sector,” the governor said.

Acknowledging the challenge of securing such a vast expanse of land in one location, he assured the investors that government officials would work with them to identify suitable sites across the state.

Aiyedatiwa highlighted Ondo’s comparative advantage as Nigeria’s leading cocoa-producing state, while pointing to recent government-supported distribution of seedlings to farmers and the growing presence of agribusinesses such as JB Farms, SAO Agricultural Services and Topics.

He further assured the investors that Ondo remained one of the safest states in the country, pledging continued support for investments capable of creating jobs, boosting internally generated revenue and driving infrastructure development.

Politics formed the third plank of the governor’s engagements.

Hosting the leadership of the PBAT Door-to-Door movement, Aiyedatiwa accepted to serve as the group’s patron in Ondo State and pledged support for its activities.

Reaffirming his backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, the governor declared that Ondo State had already taken a firm political position.

“I have declared before now that Ondo State is for Tinubu 2027. That is an executive order for us,” he said.

He urged members of the movement to sustain grassroots mobilisation through direct voter engagement, stressing that every household would count in the next election.

The governor also assured the group of assistance in securing office accommodation to coordinate its operations before expanding across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Taken together, the week’s engagements reflected an administration pursuing a three-pronged agenda: rewarding excellence to strengthen human capital, attracting strategic investments to stimulate economic growth and consolidating political structures ahead of future electoral contests.

Collectively, they provided a compelling snapshot of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s governing priorities and the direction in which his administration intends to steer Ondo State.
