Detectives of the Anti-Crime section of the Ekiti State Police Command at the weekend, arrested three persons in connection with robbery and theft of motorcycle in Ijero-Ekiti, headquarters of Ijero local government area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), mentioned the names of the suspects as Funmilayo Olawale, Fayanri Gbenga and Ahmed Yaya.

He said they were arrested through the help of some residents of the area.

“At about 20:00hrs on the fateful day, the command received a credible information that a commercial motorcycle rider was attacked in Ijero-Ekiti by a gang of armed hoodlums who initially disguised as passengers.

“The victim was stabbed with a knife in his forehead and his Bajaj motorcycle valued at N550,000, was snatched from him. Immediately the incident occurred, the Command operatives in collaboration with some sympathisers swung into action and trailed the hoodlums through their escape route where they were apprehended,” he stated.

The police spokesperson added that during a search in the houses and premises of the suspects, one Volkswagen truck, one Toyota Camry car, one Honda Power Bike, one Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle and  three Tiger Generators reasonably suspected to have been stolen were recovered.

He explained further that the suspects who are currently undergoing interrogations at the Anti-Crime section of the command would soon be arraigned in the court as soon as investigations are completed on the matter.

Abutu noted that efforts are underway by the police for possible arrest of the fleeing suspect’s and recovery of other items.

Meanwhile, the police in the state also confirmed the arrest of two persons over alleged attack on a 53-year- old man in Emure-Ekiti, headquarters of Emure local government area of Osun State.

The command’s spokesperson, Mr Sunday Abutu, said the suspects were arrested at the weekend by the operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) attached to the command.

According to him, the suspects, Olamide Sunday and Adekunle Johnson, were members of a notorious gang which specializes in attacking innocent citizens, inflicting injuries and robbing them of their valuables.

He explained that during the attack, the victim who is currently recuperating in an undisclosed health facility in the state, was dispossessed of items which include, one Infinix Hot 10 phone valued at N62,000, one Samsung S9 Phone valued at N110,000,  one MP3 valued at N10,000, three Oraimo power bank worth N40,000 each and the daily sale of about N310,000 cash.

According to him, “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the crime and mentioned other members of the gang who are at large.

He noted that the police are currently doing everything to arrest other members of the gang who fled the scene during the arrest, while those arrested are currently helping to unravel the cause of the alleged attack.

He promised that the police under the watch of the Commissioner of Police in the srate, Mr Dare Ogundare, would continue to do everything possible to safeguard the lives and property of residents of the state.
